About

Margery, Peter Reade and their daughter Trish Ryan have lived in this little nook of Wimboldsley, Cheshire for over 27 years.

Originally rearers of chickens and calves, their business took off in a different direction in 2003 when they converted their 200 year old barn (previously the home of the calves, among other things) into 7 first floor bedrooms, with a Tea Room and shop on the ground floor.

The Harvest Store opened on the 31st March 2003 and was one of the very first shops in the county to offer quality local produce from small suppliers in and around Cheshire.

While the tea room, under the watchful pair of Margery & Trish, offered up home-cooked food made just the way it should be.

In 2008 - as well as getting married - Trish took full control of the business and has guided it through the fraught times of the recession, while still keeping the good name of the place alive and without reverting to cheaper ingredients to serve up.

The Harvest Store has always been a byword for quality.

And now we’ve changed our name.

But only our name.

Trish

As well as being the boss Trish is a naturally talented cake maker. She can knock up a wondrous sandwich cake without batting an eyelid. In 2006 she won a Great Taste Award Bronze (nowadays a 1-star Gold) for her  succulent Sticky Stem Ginger cake. And this year she’s bagged a brace of Food NW Fine Food Awards. In the past eight years she has turned her hand to diabetic cakes (the reduced sugar tea bread regularly sells out); gluten free cakes; and celebration cakes - she even made her own wedding cake!

Outside of work - what little time there is - Trish likes going to the occasional gig (Bon Jovi for one) and has recently completed the 2011 Bupa Great Manchester run.

Margery is young for her age and has the sort of drive, determination and twinkle in her eye that sets her apart from most sexagenarians.

It is Margery who makes all of our preserves: the jams, marmalades and chutneys. All made in small batches and each different to the last.

In her spare time she loves listening to loud music - doesn’t matter what it is; delving into the wonders of the internet; and when it’s dry and warm she loves nothing more than to blast down country lanes on her bicycle - so much so that most struggle to keep up!

She’s also very camera-shy!

Margery

Peter’s three loves are his family, food and vintage tractors... And not always in that order.

He is the face our suppliers see most often when he’s out picking up from our local producers.

In his spare time vintage tractors are his thing, and he’s long been a member of the Cheshire Vintage Tractor Club with the annual Three Coasts road runs, various other regular runs and the infamous trip to Benidorm and back just some of what Mr Pasty gets up to.

Jade, Becky, Abi are the faces you’ll see in the Tea Room, serving you and making your eating experience in the Tea Room as pleasant and relaxing as possible, all under the watchful eye of Ann-Marie, the Tea Room manager. Kate’s in the kitchen cooking your food to order with Margery & Trish usually running here, there and everywhere making sure the whole place runs like clockwork.

Cheryl is one of the first people you’ll meet at Hopley House as she works in the shop. Bubbly and attentive she’s learning quickly from Graham, and will be an asset for years to come.

Sharon is the star housekeeper who keeps the bedrooms spotless, and who had a massive hand in the creation of the new rooms.

Joanne

Margery & Peter’s eldest daughter, Joanne, has recently joined the team, adding her organising expertise to the mix. Like her sister, Trish, Joanne is an accomplished cake maker. Mum of two, her passions include running - this year she’ll do her third consecutive Great North Run - and dancing around the house to Status Quo.

Graham

Graham - Trish’s husband - has been working in the shop for a little over 5 years. One of the highlights of his job is that he’s tried pretty much everything we sell - well, except the bird seed and the dog chews - as he feels it helps our customers pick the goods that are right for them.

In his spare time Graham paints, writes, draws and does this website and spends the rest of the time looking either harassed or half-asleep. He also shies away from photographs as his large forehead reflects the flash in an alarmingly bright manner.
